Frequently Asked Questions

We’re so pleased you’re interested in joining our circus community - there’s so much to look forward to, but for many it’s a brand new experience and we know you’ll have lots of questions.

Fear not! Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. If yours isn’t answered here, feel free to contact us anytime.

WHEN & WHERE?
Our address is 61E Hugo Johnston Drive, Penrose. There are carparks onsite. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first class and let your tutor know that it is your first time. We will take a moment to show you around and welcome you!

HELP! I WANT TO TRY CIRCUS, BUT I’M FEELING REALLY NERVOUS
This is really normal! Circus is often a safe haven for people who are have felt alienated from traditional sports or forms of exercise. We celebrate uniqueness and we all support each other. If you’re feeling shy or unsure please email us! There are a few things we can do to help you feel at ease in class.

WHAT DO I WEAR?
For aerial classes please make sure you have no zips or metal on your clothing; zips catch and damage our equipment. You’ll want to wear comfy stretchy clothing with the backs of your knees and your tummy covered as these areas can be burnt or grazed by the equipment. As you get more advanced you should also bring a layer that can cover your armpits. For other acrobatic classes you can wear any comfortable clothing that you can move in, again with no metal bits. For partner acro, shorts can be helpful. In winter it can be cold, so please bring a warm layer or two for during warm up and cool down.

WHAT DO I BRING?
We have filtered water on site so be sure to bring a drink bottle to stay hydrated! Circus is thirsty work.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT, FLEXIBLE, OF A CERTAIN AGE OR BODY TYPE TO START?
Absolutely not! Our only physical prerequisite is that you don’t have any current injury or circumstance which would make acrobatics harmful to you. If you are 3 years or over there is a class for you. If you are very fit or have a background in sports, gymnastics or dance you may find you progress faster in some areas. Our tutors are experts at working to the mixed levels of students and we have different variations of each skill and exercise to keep everyone adequately challenged.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH CLASS TO CHOOSE?
Beginner aerial is the ideal class for adult beginners and teaches you the foundations on a range of different aerial equipment. The youth 7-12 year old and teens classes are suitable for younger beginners. Our more advanced classes do have prerequisites, many require students to be able to comfortably climb a rope or fabric and invert in the air. These classes are either labeled Grade 3+ on the timetable or called adept/advanced. If you’re unsure of your level chat to us so we can help you pick the appropriate class.

IS THERE A WEIGHT LIMIT?
No; our rigging is professionally installed and can hold acrobats of all weights with a high safety ratio.

WHAT IF I’M RUNNING LATE? CAN I STILL COME TO CLASS?
As long as you are no more than 15 minutes late, you can warm up and join the class.  If you are more than 15 minutes late though, you will have missed too much of the warm-up and conditioning and it is not safe for you to join in.  You are welcome to stay and watch though.
